First Day Tips for Ark on Xbox One

So, its your first time playing Ark is it? Looking for a couple tips on how to survive? I decided to make a beginners list of basic needs and the steps to take to get them.

First off, have you played Minecraft? This is similar to it, just with way better graphics. It has the inventory, the crafting, the creatures that will kill you, the health factor, and of course, building whatever you please.

Go ahead and create a character/survivor, and find a server. Choose your spawn location and enter the game.

1. Find a nice area for your setup. It's best to stay close to your spawn point, just so you don't have to run very far to get back to your home if you die and need to respawn. My favourite type of location is on the beach near a river/ocean with an abundant supply of trees and large rocks nearby. This makes collecting resources and refilling stats like water a lot easier.

2. Before you can create anything, you need to collect some resources. Pick up some rocks (or bash on some nearby boulders (RT) for rocks & flint, and bash on some trees (RT) to collect some thatch & wood. While doing this, you will gain XP and level up. When you level up, go into your inventory and select the stat (health, water, hunger, energy, etc) that you would like to upgrade.

3. Now that you have leveled up, use your engrams to unlock the stone pick. When crafted and equipped, it will save you a lot of health and collect more resources from rocks, trees, etc. Foraging faster, in turn, means leveling up faster too.

4. Usually, it wont take long until you get a notification saying you are cold. Use your engrams (gained every time you level up) to unlock the campfire skill. Create a campfire and set it up. This serves a double purpose: it will keep you warm until you have a shelter set up, and you can use it to cook meat collected from dead animals.

5. Speaking of food, you're probably hungry by now aren't you? Press (Y) near a bush to collect berries. They wont fill you up much, but they are easy to collect if you are low on health and cant battle an animal. Always keep an eye out for Dodo birds. They are an easy source of meat and aren't likely to kill you.

6. Keep an eye on your stats and try to avoid dying or being killed by an attacker (animals or other players). Your next goal is to gain enough engrams to unlock the Thatch Foundation, Thatch Walls, Thatch Roof, Thatch Doorframe, and Thatch Door. Once you have unlocked them, collect the necessary resources and build up a small house for yourself.

7. OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED
Use a few engrams to unlock the storage box. Create one and place it in your home. Put most of your inventory in it and carry only what you need with you. The reason for this? If you die, you have approximately 5 minutes to respawn, find your corpse, and collect everything before its gone. If you have most of your items in your storage, you wont have to worry about big losses if you are killed.

From here, its up to you what you want to do. Ill include a couple of suggestions, just in case you aren't quite sure.

-Use engrams to unlock a bed (requires first unlocking the sleeping bag). When set up, the bed allows you and your tribe members to spawn in your home instead of a random spawn point on the map.

-Use engrams to unlock the slingshot. Craft the slingshot and collect as many rocks as you want/can. When equipped, you can use your slingshot to knock out an animal by shooting rocks at their head. This makes bigger enemies easier to kill/tame. When unconscious, you can then put Necro Berries in their inventory to keep them unconscious, along with berries or meat, based on if they are carnivores or herbivores. Keeping them unconscious and feeding them will tame the animal. If they wake up at any point, you will have to start over trying to tame them.
Otherwise, killing them while they are unconscious suddenly became a lot easier and there's no chance of them killing you!
*NOTE: Some animals may require more than one headshot to be knocked out. Also, some animals can take as long as 2 hours to tame.

I'll add more suggestions as I come up with them, but bye for now!

Until Next Time,
A Gamer's Girl

  1. Quick heads up some pick is auto unlocked level one. First thing I would suggest is hit tree and pick up some to create stone pick.

Then mine big boulders foot flint.

You should more Hebe leveled once. Unlock camp fire and hatchet.

Use the items collect to craft a hatchet.

Note: 0ick gets more don't then stone and not thatch then wood

Hatchet gets more wood then thatch and Moor stone then flint
