Gaming Tips for Ark On Xbox One

*Regularly updated so feel free to check back often*

So, you want to know a few things on how to survive, eh? Good call, you've come to the right place! Thanks to personal experience and the amazing fellow gamers, I've pulled together a list here of little tricks that will not only help you survive, but be able to advance as well.

Here we go!

-Don't run unless you have to. Depleting your energy will cost you hunger and health, and it takes a LOT of food to get back in the clear. Low health will take your food and turn it into health, which leaves you constantly hungry. Trying to save yourself with berries isn't easy, and it's not any easier to try and hunt while "injured".

-Put egg lay interval at 0.0 in your settings to get an egg overflow going

-Mark a location on your map by pressing "X" while the map is open

-Press "RT" to force feed items from dino inventory (berries/meat). The meat will also heal carnivores

-Placing a bed will allow you to spawn in your home if you die (no more running around looking for your setup).

-Use a slingshot and rocks to knock out dino's and tame them

First Day Tips for Ark on Xbox One

So, its your first time playing Ark is it? Looking for a couple tips on how to survive? I decided to make a beginners list of basic needs and the steps to take to get them.

First off, have you played Minecraft? This is similar to it, just with way better graphics. It has the inventory, the crafting, the creatures that will kill you, the health factor, and of course, building whatever you please.

Go ahead and create a character/survivor, and find a server. Choose your spawn location and enter the game.

1. Find a nice area for your setup. It's best to stay close to your spawn point, just so you don't have to run very far to get back to your home if you die and need to respawn. My favourite type of location is on the beach near a river/ocean with an abundant supply of trees and large rocks nearby. This makes collecting resources and refilling stats like water a lot easier.

2. Before you can create anything, you need to collect some resources. Pick up some rocks (or bash on some nearby boulders (RT) for rocks & flint, and bash on some trees (RT) to collect some thatch & wood. While doing this, you will gain XP and level up. When you level up, go into your inventory and select the stat (health, water, hunger, energy, etc) that you would like to upgrade.

3. Now that you have leveled up, use your engrams to unlock the stone pick. When crafted and equipped, it will save you a lot of health and collect more resources from rocks, trees, etc. Foraging faster, in turn, means leveling up faster too.

4. Usually, it wont take long until you get a notification saying you are cold. Use your engrams (gained every time you level up) to unlock the campfire skill. Create a campfire and set it up. This serves a double purpose: it will keep you warm until you have a shelter set up, and you can use it to cook meat collected from dead animals.

5. Speaking of food, you're probably hungry by now aren't you? Press (Y) near a bush to collect berries. They wont fill you up much, but they are easy to collect if you are low on health and cant battle an animal. Always keep an eye out for Dodo birds. They are an easy source of meat and aren't likely to kill you.

6. Keep an eye on your stats and try to avoid dying or being killed by an attacker (animals or other players). Your next goal is to gain enough engrams to unlock the Thatch Foundation, Thatch Walls, Thatch Roof, Thatch Doorframe, and Thatch Door. Once you have unlocked them, collect the necessary resources and build up a small house for yourself.

7. OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED
Use a few engrams to unlock the storage box. Create one and place it in your home. Put most of your inventory in it and carry only what you need with you. The reason for this? If you die, you have approximately 5 minutes to respawn, find your corpse, and collect everything before its gone. If you have most of your items in your storage, you wont have to worry about big losses if you are killed.

From here, its up to you what you want to do. Ill include a couple of suggestions, just in case you aren't quite sure.

-Use engrams to unlock a bed (requires first unlocking the sleeping bag). When set up, the bed allows you and your tribe members to spawn in your home instead of a random spawn point on the map.

-Use engrams to unlock the slingshot. Craft the slingshot and collect as many rocks as you want/can. When equipped, you can use your slingshot to knock out an animal by shooting rocks at their head. This makes bigger enemies easier to kill/tame. When unconscious, you can then put Necro Berries in their inventory to keep them unconscious, along with berries or meat, based on if they are carnivores or herbivores. Keeping them unconscious and feeding them will tame the animal. If they wake up at any point, you will have to start over trying to tame them.
Otherwise, killing them while they are unconscious suddenly became a lot easier and there's no chance of them killing you!
*NOTE: Some animals may require more than one headshot to be knocked out. Also, some animals can take as long as 2 hours to tame.

I'll add more suggestions as I come up with them, but bye for now!

Inventory Controls for Xbox One

Howdy!

Thanks for checking in yet again with me as I post my third entry! This time I am listing the controls for navigating in the inventory menu. First of all, press B anytime during gameplay to access your inventory!

Currently selected items will be highlighted with a yellow box

A:
Select highlighted item

B:
Exit inventory and return to gameplay

X:
Split One- split highlighted item into 2 slots. Useful if you only want to use one of the selected item (eg. one wood for your campfire)

Y:
Split Half- split highlighted item into 2 slots. Useful if you only want to use half of the selected item (eg. 5/10 wood for your campfire)

LT:
Drop item- drop items you have no use for

RT:
Consume highlighted item (meats, berries)
Use items such as torches, etc

On Screen Basics Xbox One

Hello again!

So, on my journey through the internet; I did find one website that helped us out a bit. I'll include the link at the bottom of this page, to give them credit for it. I'm still posting this here though, because it's always good to have all your information in one handy place. After all, that's why I made this blog!
So, here we are:

Top Middle -

Notification bar. This bar will pop up and fade away with updates about overheating and freezing, what you, your tribemates, or pets killed, what killed you, your tribemates, or pets, what was added or removed from your inventory, and when you or your current mount has leveled up.

Lower Right - From top to bottom.

House Icon shows when you are indoors and protected from the elements.

Torpor Level (Will only show if you are poisoned) shows your chances of passing out, looks like 3 small stars.

Oxygen Level (Will only show if you are in water) shows how much air you have left, when empty you will start to suffocate and lose health, looks like an O2 tank.

Experience Bar shows you how close you are to leveling up, looks like an arrow pointing up.
Weight shows how much weight you have on you and how close you are to being over encumbered, looks like a block with a handle on top.

Water Level shows how hydrated you are, your health will start to take damage when it is empty, looks like a raindrop.

Hunger Level shows how hungry you are, your health will start to take damage when it is empty, looks like a caveman steak.

Stamina shows how much energy you have, will drain as you move, work, and attack, when empty you cannot run and using certain items like the pick or hatchet and attacking will raise your Torpor level. Also, when swimming if you run out of stamina it is harder to keep your head above water and you will likely
drown. Looks like a lightning bolt.

Health Bar shows how much health you have, as you take damage it will drain, when empty you will die. At about half health the edges of your screen will flash red. At extremely low health you will become
injured and unable to move very fast. Looks like a plus sign or cross.

Upper Right - Same descriptions above only for your current mount.

Lower Middle -
Hotbar selection. While in your inventory you can place various items onto your hotbar and use them by pressing the corresponding number. If nothing is in your hotbar it will be invisible.

Lower Left Corner - Shows various status effects currently affecting you.

Snowflake - Your hunger bar drains faster. You are cold, get somewhere warm.

Ice Cube - Your hunger bar drains faster and your health takes damage. You are really cold, get somewhere warm fast.

Small Flame - Your water drains faster. You are hot, get somewhere cool.

Large Flame - Your water drains faster and your health takes damage. You are really hot, get somewhere cool fast.

Weight Block - You are over encumbered and cannot move fast or jump. You may not even be able to move at all. Drop some weight.

Skull and Crossbones - You are poisoned. Your Torpor level is increasing, eat Stimberries or Stimulants to stay awake.

Broken Bone - Your health is extremely low and you cannot move fast or jump. Use blood packs, eat cooked meat, or drink a health brew.

Water Droplets - Your water is empty and your health is taking damage. Drink water fast or eat berries.

Stomach - Your food is empty and your health is taking damage. Eat meat or berries. Caution, while raw meat will fill your hunger bar it will also damage your health, only eat raw meat as a last resort.

Body Hunched Over - Your stamina bar is empty, stop moving to refill it.

Upper Left - In-game chat text box. Can be set to show only when people send a message or never.

On Screen - These are things that show up not so much on your hud but within the game world itself or
around the edges of your screen.

Nametags - Shows the name of players and creatures around you, what level they are, and what tribe they belong to. Walking up to crafted items will show who built them. Can be turned off in settings.

Speech Bubble with Mic - Someone is using a mic to talk in-game (Hold the B button to use a mic).

Hello Ark: Survival Evolved players!

So, my fiancé Jessie recently started playing Ark on his Xbox One. I tried looking up basics and survival techniques to help him start up and survive the first day/night. There's a lot of info for PC, but it is very hard to find anything on the Xbox One controls and features. That's probably because its still in Alpha mode. So, I started this blog to help out and gain tips from people who may know something that could help as well. I will try to add features as often as I can.

Posts already created: On Screen Basics, Inventory Controls
And that's all for now! I will be creating more blogs here shortly including inventory controls, basics on filling survival stats and eventually, FAQ's. Stay tuned! Also, feel free to comment if you have anything to add or correct, or if there is a certain topic you want me to cover. Yes, I'm human, I make mistakes too!

Until next time,
